Decking the Halls

How Aaron Hall changed it all

Meet 2017 Aaron Hall.

Everyone say, “Hi Aaron!”

Aaron and I had come to know each other some years ago when we both worked out of the same gym. I was a trainer, and Aaron worked as part of the gym staff. Aaron was pretty fit back then having just finished up high school as a wrestler, so you can imagine.

But, the Aaron that came to me in 2017 was not that Aaron. He hadn’t really been into fitness for a while. He was getting out of a relationship that wasn’t’ helping him mentally or physically. He just plain out wasn’t where he wanted to be– sitting at around 245 lbs.

He would be graduating college in December of 2018, and he wanted to find his own version fitness.

So, in the fall of 2017, we began working together. Now, before you think this was a smooth and easy thing for ex-wrestler Aaron, let me tell you a bit more about his life at the time.

He had school several days a week. He worked his butt of at his job at Enterprise, handling all kinds of responsibilities. On top of his busy normal life, he also was part of a sales/marketing group where he would go to competitions based around high pressure sales/marketing scenarios. He would be judged and scouted at these events for future employment opportunities.

He was busy, just like you are.

But, Aaron didn’t let that get in the way of his goals. He first tackled his training routine. He was able to meet with me once a week in person, and then we worked together online for the other 3-4 days a week.

From the beginning, Aaron was a great listener, and he did a great job at following up with questions to make his understanding as clear as possible.

We had a really simple plan to start working out five days a week: a body part split to get him back into the swing of things. Here is an example of his routine from the fall of 2017:

Aaron’s Shoulder Day 2017

💪Dumbbell Shoulder Press 4 sets of 8

💪Bent Over Dumbbell Rear Delt Row 5 sets of 10

SUPERSET with Dumbbell Side Lateral Raise 5 sets of 10

💪Face Pull 3 sets of 15

Superset with Pike Push-Up 3 sets of 10

He absolutely crushed this routine (plus the other 4 that were included) during this time. When he would come over to my place, we would work on bench since it was the lift that he needed the most work on. It was also the lift he needed a spotter for.

During these sessions, we talked about diet, but had not set anything in motion. We really wanted to hammer home the work out routine. Aaron did, however, take it upon himself to take to heart the things we would talk about. He started to drop weight while working out, just with simple things:

  • increasing his protein
  • watching his liquid calorie intake
  • paying attention to reading the labels

As he moved through his training over the next year, there were ups and downs (just like you might notice in your own diet or training). The thing that Aaron did–the thing that all successful people do– was he choose to be consistent. A vacation here and party there, but he was right back on it when got back.

Getting back on track ASAP is the KEY to long term results and success. As you know, this doesn’t happen overnight. Even Aaron wanted that up front, but we worked through the process.

He bought into that process, and here are the results from our year together:

  • Bodyweight 245 to 185 = -60lbs
  • Waist at navel 39″ to 33″= – 6″
  • Shoulders from 38 2/8″ to 52 “= +3 6/8”
  • Bench Press from 185 to 275
  • Squat from 250 to 365
  • Deadlift from 315 to 425

He improved all over the board with not only aesthetics and strength, but also fitting fitness into his life while not making it his entire life. People like to talk about work-life balance, but striving for a proper gym-life balance is equally important. Let Aaron be an example that it can be done!

He is now graduated and living in Dallas. This journey of maintaining an awesome physique and a killer mindset that will last him forever.

Here’s what Aaron had to say about his last year hitting the iron with me:

“Over the course of a year in working Chase I saw monumental improvements in my overall physical conditioning. I come from an athletic background having played sports most of my life and working at a gym. I had let myself go and didn’t really know where to start as far as getting back into shape. Chase provided the guidance I needed in setting realistic goals while kicking my ass when I needed it. I started out at around 245lbs and by the end had dropped down to 185lbs while gaining strength and confidence. I would highly recommend working with him if you want to change your workout habits and learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle longer.”
