One size does not fit all when it comes to working out. Whenever you’re using an exercise machine, make sure that it’s adjusted as much as possible to suit you.
We understand not everyone knows. Or sometimes, fiddling around with the knobs can feel embarrassing. Guess what? Sometimes it takes us a minute to figure out how to mess with the knobs too!
We’d much rather have you that temporary embarrassment and be safe instead of unembarrassed and injured. When in doubt, you can always ask the gym staff to lend a hand as well.
The two key adjustments will be:
- the seat – for height
- the grip – for starting position
“You want the setup to match the purpose of what you’re using the machine for.”
For instance, you won’t be able to do a chest press properly if the press movement is set way above or below your chest.
Also, be sure to observe how the machine’s starting position is set. Just like how we have different height, we also have different ranges of motion. If it hurts to get into position or there’s an uncomfortable feeling just to get the movement started, something is not right.
Or, you can always avoid that machine altogether!
